Compare complete wheel and tire setups.
Methodology & limits
See the whole setup change.
Bring the wheel and tire together. Compare each surface separately, then project a current static clearance using its matching reference surface.
A positive projected clearance is an estimate under the stated assumptions. Brake clearance, load ratings, suspension travel, and full steering lock are not assessed. Read the methodology and limits.
Match each tire to its wheel
Each setup must have matching tire and wheel diameters: a 225/45R17 tire requires a 17-inch wheel. Comparing two setups on different wheel diameters remains valid when each pair matches.
Measure the surface you want to compare
A tire-sidewall clearance must use changes in the tire envelope. A wheel-lip clearance needs the physical edge dimensions of both wheels. Nominal wheel width cannot stand in for a measured lip width.
A geometric projection
The calculation assumes the same hub position, alignment, obstacle, and measurement conditions. Tire shape, deflection, steering, and suspension movement can change the clearance in use. Verify the actual installation separately.
